Ron G. Crane is the State Treasurer in Idaho. He has served in this position since first elected in 1998.[1] His current term expires in January 2015 and he is eligible for re-election in 2014.

On March 3, Crane announced that he is running for re-election in 2014.[2] He is seeking the Republican nomination in the primary on May 20, 2014. The general election takes place November 4, 2014.

Biography

Following his graduation from college, Crane served in the Idaho National Guard from 1971 to 1977. He is the owner and operator of Crane Alarm Service, a role he has served in since 1979.[3] In 2010, Crane was elected president of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA).[1]

Political career

Idaho Treasurer (1999-Present)

Crane first assumed office as Idaho Treasurer on January 4, 1999, having won in the general election on November 3, 1998. He has been re-elected three times since. Crane's current term began on January 3, 2011, and will end on January 5, 2015. He will come up for re-election next in 2014.

Audited

In January 2012, it was first reported that Idaho Legislative Services auditors had been reviewing financial records from Crane's office to determine if any criminal offenses took place. Under state law, the audit is conducted at least every three years.[4] In a report released January 30, legislative auditors accused Crane of improperly documenting his offices expenditures, particularly the use of transportation. Crane disagreed with the report but said that in the future he would record future expenditures through the state's accounting system.[5]

Before becoming treasurer, Crane was a Republican member of the Idaho House of Representatives. He was first elected in 1982 and served for eight terms.

Personal

Crane and his wife, Cheryl, have six children and seven grandchildren. The family resides in Crane's hometown of Nampa, Idaho.[3][12]
