Thiessen ran in the 2012 election for Minnesota State Senate District 15. He was defeated by Sally Knox in the Democratic primary on August 14. Incumbent Dave Brown ran unopposed in the Republican primary.[1][2]

Campaign themes

Thiessen is critical of financial deregulation and opposes the use of corporate money in politics. On the issue of abortion, he states, "I support current law regarding abortion. The labels Pro Life and Pro Choice are grossly inaccurate. We are all Pro Life and the majority of us are Pro Choice. Abortion is reasonably regulated but most of us would prefer that it was a much rarer occurrence."[3]
