McDole was running in the 2012 election for Montana House of Representatives, District 2. McDole ran unopposed in the June 5 primary election and would have been challenged by incumbent Mike Cuffe (R) and Shawn Guymon (L) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

McDole withdrew following the primary election, after running in the election.
