Brown earned his BS from Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology in 1974.
Brown is the owner of a small business. He has also worked in Consulting and Real Estate Management. From 1974 to 1983 he worked in various Petroleum-Related Jobs.
Brown was a Legislative Representative for FAIM Statewide Advisory Council. He then served in the Montana State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2006. During this time he served as Republican Leader. He then joined the Montana State Senate in 2007 and has served in that position since. He is currently a Majority Whip.
