Burrell is a business consultant. He has been a talk show host on KDKS-FM, and a guest columnist for the Shreveport Sun.
Burrell is the founder of Democrats 2000, founder/Director of Inner City Entrepreneur Institute, Coordinator of the National Buy Freedom Program, and a leader with the Right Way Foundation. He is a member of the Democratic Caucus, Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, and Louisiana Rural Caucus.[1]

On October 22, 2011, Burrell won re-election to District 61 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was set to face Raymond Hicks (D) in the October 22 primary, but filed a lawsuit challenging his residency. On September 21, Judge Leon Emanuel ruled against Hicks, effectively removing him from the ballot and guaranteeing Burrell re-election.[2]
2007
In 2007, Burrell was re-elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. He defeated Brian Hairston.[3]
