Russ Pfeiffer-Hoyt recall, Mount Baker School Board, Washington (2012)
John Lamonte initiated the recall effort. The catalyst for recall was Pfeiffer-Hoyt's December 2011 vote to accept a $500,000 gift from Whatcom Land Trust to the school district. In exchange, the district agreed not to pursue legal action against the transfer of 8,844 acres in Lake Whatcom watershed from the state to the county for use as a park. Recall supporters believed that Pfeiffer-Hoyt had a conflict of interest in the matter, because he was allegedly a member of the Land Trust and had served on its Advisory Board in 2003-04.
