Political career
Alabama State Auditor (2007-present)
Shaw was first elected to serve as Alabama's auditor in 2006. She was re-elected in 2010. Shaw will be ineligible to run for re-election in 2014 due to term limits. As state auditor, Shaw leads the office's performance of post audits between the state's other financial agencies, the State Treasury and the Comptroller’s Office, in addition to serving as Chairperson on the Board of Adjustments.[1]
Asset loss reduction
Alabama uses a database known as the Protégé system to manage valuable assets, including all vehicles and weapons, across the state's 67 counties. Shaw has made asset loss reduction a top priority of her terms in office. According to the office's main website, since Shaw took office in 2007, losses of state assets has been reduced by 61%, worth over $217,000. She has also overseen numerous agency property audits resulting in the successful location and recovery of thousands of previously unrecorded assets.[1]
