A San Francisco Gross Receipts Tax was suggested as a possible ballot measures for a special June 2, 2009 election ballot in San Francisco, but this did not ultimately come to pass.[1]
Supervisor John Avalos sponsored putting the measure on the June ballot.
The measure, if it had gone on a ballot and if it had been approved by voters, would have:
- Impose a 1 % tax on businesses with gross receipts in excess of $2 million
- Impose a 1.4% tax on commercial real estate leasing with gross receipts in excess of $2 million
- Impose a .5 % Sales Tax Increase for Emergency Health and Human Services and Public Protection
- Increase the city's 8.5% sales tax to 9% for three years.
