San Jose telephone taxes, Measure J and K, 2008

Two San Jose telephone tax measures, J and K were on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Santa Clara County for voters in the city of San Jose.
Measure J and K were approved.
- J got 77.69% of the vote.
- K got 79.55% of the vote.
Measure J says, "Shall an ordinance be adopted to eliminate the 911 fee of $1.75 per telephone line and replace it with a 10% reduced tax of $1.57 with a corresponding reduction for commercial-type trunk lines, to support essential City services such as police, fire, emergency response, parks, and libraries; to continue exemptions for low-income senior citizens or low-income disabled households, subject to existing audits?"
Measure K says, "Shall an ordinance be adopted to reduce the telecommunications users tax rate from 5% to 4.5%; to update the ordinance and apply the tax equally regardless of technology used; in order to support essential City services, such as police, fire, emergency response, street maintenance, parks and libraries; while maintaining current exemptions; subject to existing audits?"
