Santa Monica Eviction for Cause, Measure RR (November 2010)

A Santa Monica Renter Protection Charter Amendment was on the November 2, 2010 ballot for voters in the City of Santa Monica in Los Angeles County.[1] It was approved.

Measure RR amends the Santa Monica City Charter so that:

  • Landlords will have to give tenants "reasonable time" to correct rental agreement violations, except for non-payment of rent.
  • Landlords cannot evict the elderly, disabled and terminally ill tenants for owner-occupancy unless the owner-occupant is also elderly, disabled or terminally ill.
  • A landlord must establish good cause to evict any tenant.

  • Yes: 18,184 (64.9%) Approveda
  • No: 9,835 (35.1%)
