A school district bond issue is a bond issue used by a public school district, typically to finance a building project or other capital project.

40 states require voter approval of bond issues as a matter of course, and in seven more, voters can petition to have bond issues placed on the ballot. Of the remaining three states, one of them, Indiana, uses what is known as the remonstrance-petition process.

School bond issues in Illinois

In Illinois, between 1973-2006, voters approved school bonds in 64 percent of referenda. They've averaged 64 bond referenda per year since 1995.

School bond issues in Kansas

The first school district bond issue elections in Kansas occurred in 1993, when 36 elections were held, with 20 succeeding.[1]
