Kelsh is an intern architect at Yhrshrw, Architects, Ltd. He earned his BS in 1993 and BA in 1994, both from North Dakota State University. He was also involved in Bowhay Fellowship at Institute for Legislative Leadership Development in 1997.
Kelsh and his wife, Kim, have two children.[2]

Kelsh ran for North Dakota State Auditor in 2012.[3] He was unopposed in the primary election and was defeated by incumbent Republican Robert Peterson in the November general election.[1][4]
