Born November 11, 1964 in Sioux City, Iowa, Lautenbaugh is an Attorney from Douglas County, Nebraska. He has his undergraduate and law degrees from Creighton University. Prior to his appointment to the Nebraska Senate, he served as a commissioner on the Douglas County Board of Elections from 2000 to 2003, and was President of the Omaha Barristers from 2000 to 2001. He has a private practice in his home town of Blair. [1]

Drunk driving arrest
In February 2013, Lautenbaugh was arrested for driving under the influence. After he was pulled over for driving erratically, his blood alcohol level was found to be .234 blood alcohol content—nearly three times the legal limit.[6]
