Seattle Initiative 99 (2009)
From Ballotpedia
Seattle Initiative 99 is a ballot initiative intended to prohibit replacing Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct with a tunnel. Its supporters will begin collecting signatures to qualify it for the ballot in Seattle, Washington in February 2009.
The initiative, if approved, would prohibit use of public property for the $4.2-billion tunnel.
Elizabeth Campbell is a leader of the group that is collecting signatures on the petition. They have until July 20, 2009 to collect at least 17,968 voter signatures. If they succeed, the Seattle City Council will then have the option of adopting as an ordinance the language of the petition. If the city council declines to adopt it, the measure would then go on a city-wide Seattle ballot.[1]
