This measure was defeated

  • YES 232 (32.12%)
  • NO 490 (67.87%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to allow civil service for the firefighters of the city, it was brought to the ballot by a referendum that succeeded in gaining enough signatures. The city council was against this measure, but had to include it on the May ballot because the petition drive was legal. Lack of funds and the fire authority having too much power were the main reasons behind the council's thoughts.[2]
