Hopkins stated the following about his political philosophy in a biographical submission to Ballotpedia:[1]

"I believe that two-party government is in the best interests of Vermont and will bring an element of moderation to state government, which has suffered under the current one-party rule."

Hopkins ran for election in the 2012 election for Vermont House of Representatives Rutland 6. Hopkins was unopposed in the August 28 Republican primary and was defeated in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]
