Campaign themes

Shimek's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

Health Care

Good health care is important for all of us, and it needs to be affordable whether it be to ensure children have a healthy start in life, whether it is to care for those who are physical, emotional, or mental difficulties in life, or it is to help seniors on Medicare or those on Medicaid.

Bipartisan Solutions
We need to work together accross party lines for the betterment of our hosue district and our state. One of the great benefits of this country is that we can have differing points of view and be able to express them, and it allows us to work together.

Fair Taxation
While no one likes to pay taxes, fair taxation is what keeps our country and our house district 30B operating. It is what pays for our roads, our bridges, and our schools operating. At the same time we need to continue decreasing the national debt and having a balanced budget. Taxation needs to be fairly distributed among all our citizens while at the same time using tax incentives to encourage business development in our communities.

We need to have access to transportation so the citizens of House 30B can effectively and efficiently move about in their daily lives to their work, and that businesses can move their products. This includes maintaining roads and bridges, many of which need repair as well as working for other forms of transportation.

According to one source, there are more than 400,000 veterans in Minnesota, including those current members of the armed forces. It is vital that we provide benefits to these men and women who have served our country, giving them funding for their emotional and physical well-being as well as their economic status.[1][2]
