Biography
Jackson Lee earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Yale University and her J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.[3] From 1977-1978, she served as staff counsel to the U.S. House Select Committee on Assassinations.[4]

Issues
House Judiciary Committee
Congresswoman Jackson-Lee was first appointed to the House Judiciary Committee shortly after she was first sworn into Congress in 1995.[7] Jackson-Lee has served on the committee throughout her entire congressional career. Jackson-Lee also serves on the House Judiciary Subcommittees on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property, Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, and Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law.[8]
Jackson Lee is also a member of the Task Force on Judicial Impeachment which considers impeachments of federal judges.[9]
Specific votes
Fiscal Cliff
Jackson Lee voted for the fiscal cliff compromise bill, which made permanent most of the Bush tax cuts originally passed in 2001 and 2003 while also raising tax rates on the highest income levels. She was one of 172 Democrats that voted in favor of the bill. The bill was passed in the House by a 257/167 vote on January 1, 2013.[10]
