There was a Sidney Village Waste Disposal Plant Construction Bond proposition on the February 2 election in Champaign County for voters in the village of Sidney.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 165 (39.1%)
  • NO 257 (60.9%)Defeatedd[1]

This proposition sought to create a bond in the amount of $10,200,000 in order to help fund the acquiring, construction and installation of new waste water and sewage facilities for the village.[2]

The village president was disappointed in the outcome, the village had planned to rebuild the system before this measure was petitioned for. Residents believed that the system did not need replacing and the village would be spending money that was not necessary. The village has septic systems that are old and are not up to modern standards. The village president said he half expects the EPA to pressure the village, regardless of the election outcome, to phase out the system and put in an actual sewer system.[3]
