The Sierra Unified school bonds, Measures V and W were on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Fresno County, California for voters in the Sierra Unified School District.
  • Measure V authorized a $12 million bond. It was defeated with 48.64% of the vote.
  • Measure W authorized a $10 million bond. It was defeated with 51.03% of the vote. (55% was required for passage.)

The language on the ballot for Measure V said:

To improve neighborhood elementary and middle schools, upgrade classroom computer technology and school pick-up/drop-off zones, bring playgrounds into compliance with safety requirements, upgrade plumbing, wiring, heating and ventilation system, improve energy efficiency, increase classroom funding by paying down debt, shall Sierra Unified School District issue $12,000,000 of bonds at legal rates to renovate, acquire, construct, repair, equip schools, sites, facilities, with independent financial audits, citizens' oversight, and no money for administrators' salaries?

The language on the ballot for Measure W said:

To provide a quality education and attract excellent teachers, upgrade electrical systems, classroom computer technology and science labs, improve job training and vocational education classrooms, improve energy efficiency to reduce utility costs, shall Sierra Unified School District issue $10,000,000 of bonds at legal rates to renovate, acquire, construct, repair, equip high school classrooms, sites, facilities, with independent financial audits, citizens' oversight, and no money for administrators' salaries?

Comparison

Altogether, there were 95 school bond measures on the November 4 ballot across California. Of the 95, just eight were defeated. Measures V and W are two of the eight that were defeated.
