Three Smithfield Village Current Levy Measures were on the March 6, 2012 ballot in the village of Smithfield which is in Jefferson County.

Two of the tree measures were approved

The first measure sought to renew the current operational levy which was set at a rate of $.40 per $100 of assessed property value for a further four years in order continue to pay for current expenses in the village.

  • NO: 52 (37.96%)

The second measure sought to add to the current cemetery levy by a rate of $.05 per $100 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for operational costs of the cemetery in the village.

  • YES: 78 (56.20%) Approveda
  • NO: 60 (43.80%)

The third measure sought to add to the current parks levy by a rate of $.05 per $100 of assessed property value for a period of four years in order to continue to pay for parks and recreational services in the village.[1]

Text of measure

The question on the ballot:

A renewal of a tax for the benefit of the Village of Smithfield for the purpose of current operating expenses at a rate not exceeding 4 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to $0.40 for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for 4 years, commencing in 2012, first due in calendar year 2013.
