South Carolina Amendment 2 (1998)

South Carolina Amendment 2 provides that a candidate for the Senate or House of Representatives must be a legal resident of the district in which he is a candidate at the time he files for the office. It was on the November 3, 1998 election ballot in South Carolina where it passed, with 90% of voters in favor.
Text of measure
The language that appeared on the ballot:
Would amend the constitution relating to the qualifications of Senators and members of the House of Representatives to provide that a candidate for the Senate or House of Representatives must be a legal resident of the district in which he is a candidate at the time he files for office.
