PIERRE, South Dakota: Medical marijuana supporters plan to file approximately 30,000 petition signatures on Monday with the South Dakota Secretary of State's office to place the proposed South Dakota Medical Marijuana Act on the November 2, 2010 statewide ballot. Supporters are required to collect a minimum of 16,776 valid signatures.[1] The measure calls for the limited use of marijuana to treat severe debilitating pain, nausea, seizures and other medical problems. People eligible under the proposal include people with cancer, glaucoma, AIDS, multiple sclerosis and various other diseases.[2] In 2006 a similar measure was defeated with only 47.7% in favor.
