This measure did not or will not appear on a ballot

The South Dakota Legislative Term Extension Amendment did not make the November 6, 2012 ballot in the state of South Dakota as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment. The proposal would have amended the state constitution to allow state legislators to serve up to six consecutive two-year terms, instead of four consecutive two-year terms. The measure was sponsored by State Rep. James Bolin.^[1]

Path to the ballot

Section 1 of Article XXIII of the South Dakota Constitution says that the South Dakota State Legislature can refer a proposed amendment to the state's voters through a majority vote. The measure did not make the ballot, however.
