South Dakota Referred Law 2 was an act to transfer the unclaimed property office from the State Treasurer's Office to the Secretary of Revenue. It was on the November 3, 1998 election ballot in South Dakota where it was defeated with 174,790 votes opposed.

Text of measure

Under current law, the State Treasurer administers the unclaimed property laws. The 1997 Legislature transferred this responsibility to the Secretary of Revenue. A "yes" vote will transfer the unclaimed property office to the Secretary of Revenue; a "no" vote will leave the unclaimed property office with the State Treasurer.
