The South Dakota gubernatorial and lieutenant gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Governor Dennis Daugaard (R) and Lieutenant Governor Matthew Michels (R) are running for re-election. Daugaard and Michels were first elected in 2010. The Republican ticket faces the Democratic ticket of Susan Wismer and Susan Blake and the independent ticket of Mike Myers and Lora Hubbel in the general election. The winners of the election will serve concurrent four-year terms in office.

South Dakota is one of 21 states with a mixed primary system. Parties decide who may vote. Registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters may vote in the Democratic primary. Only registered Republicans may vote in the Republican primary.[1]
