Special election scheduled for Maine District 11 seat

AUGUSTA, Maine: On Thursday, the Secretary of State's office announced a special election to take place on March 1, 2011 to fill the vacant District 11 House seat.[1]

Republican Everett McLeod, Sr. died on December 20 after a long battle with cancer. He was re-elected in November to serve his fourth term, which was scheduled to begin on January 1 of this year.

For candidates and nominating committees, all nominating paperwork must be filed with the Secretary of State's office by 4 p.m. Thursday, January 27.[2] Party nominees will then be chosen during their committee caucuses.
