The Spokane Fire Property Tax Levy, Proposition 1 was on the August 18, 2009 ballot in Spokane County for voters in Spokane County Fire Protection District No. 4.

The measure was defeated.[1]

  • No: 4,587 (56.66%)Defeatedd

The measure proposed restoring the property tax levy to $1.50 per every $1,000 of assessed property value for those in Fire Protection District No. 4.[2] A 50 percent majority was needed to pass the proposed levy. Fire Chief Ed Lewis said,"What we were doing was attempting to replace the need for bond issues," and added that like most the fire departments are also concerned about the cost of government.[3]
