Sponsorship signature

A sponsorship signature is a signature that must be presented to a state government official, such as a Secretary of State or Attorney General, before that official will take action to certify that an initiative or referendum may begin a petition drive to qualify a measure for the ballot.
Most of the states with initiative and referendum rights do not require sponsorship signatures. The states that do require them are:
- Oregon. Oregon requires 1,000 sponsorship signatures.
