Stanislaus Sales Tax, Measure S, 2008
From Ballotpedia
A Stanislaus Sales Tax, Measure S proposition was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in Stanislaus County.
Measure S was defeated with 66.42% in favor.
2/3rds of those voting were required to vote "yes" for the measure to pass. It would have imposed a 1/2 of 1% sales tax in the county. If approved, the tax would have lasted for twenty years.
Voters were asked to consider the question:
- "This Ordinance provides for the imposition of a one-half of one percent retail transactions and use tax by the Stanislaus County Transportation Authority for local transportation purposes for a period of 20 years."
Voters in the county rejected a somewhat similar measure, Measure K, in 2006. Measure S lasts for twenty years, whereas Measure K proposed a thirty-year tax.
