DENVER, Colorado: A measure currently being considered by the Colorado Legislature could have an impact on state employees.

The potential ballot measure may appear on the 2012 ballot as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment. The measure would allow the state to hire residents of neighboring states who live near the state border, allow temporary workers to keep their jobs for a longer amount of time and would increase the number of finalists considered for open jobs.[1]

Two-thirds of each chamber of the Colorado General Assembly must vote affirmatively for a proposed amendment in order for it to go on the statewide ballot for potential voter ratification.

The measure was approved by the Colorado State Senate on May 1, 2012, sending it to the Colorado House of Representatives for a similar vote.[1]
