State executives

Three states are scheduled to hold state executive official elections in 2013: New Jersey, Virginia and Wisconsin. In those elections, a total of 6 state executive seats are up for election. They are:
- Governor of New Jersey
- Lt. Governor of New Jersey
- Governor of Virginia
- Lt. Governor of Virginia
- Attorney General of Virginia
- Wisconsin Superintendent of Public Instruction
Officers in New Jersey and Virginia will be elected on November 5, 2013, following primaries on June 4 and June 11, respectively. In Wisconsin, the general election is scheduled for April 2, 2013. Only two individuals filed for the non partisan position of Wisconsin superintendent this year, therefore no state executive office will appear on the February 19, 2013 primary election ballot.
State legislative
In the 50 states, there are 99 state legislative chambers altogether, and 3 of the 99 chambers will hold state legislative elections on November 5, 2013.
The 3 chambers with elections in 2013 are in 2 states. They are:
Louisiana and Mississippi also typically hold elections in odd years. However, legislators are elected to 4-year terms in those states and those will not be up for election again until 2015.
40 of the country's 1,972 state senate seats are up for re-election in November 2013, and 180 of the country's 5,411 state house seats are up for re-election. Altogether, 220 of the country's 7,383 state legislative seats are up for re-election on November 5, 2013.

One ballot question is certified for a spot on one statewide ballot in 2013 as of February 26, 2013. Proposed measures can be found here.
So far, five states have been identified as having the potential to see measures on the ballot in 2013. Those states are: New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Washington. Historically, elections on odd-numbered years see about forty-five measures on average; there were thirty-four in 2011. Initiatives that have already filed signatures and are pending certification can be found here.
