Kettering earned his Bachelor's from Buena Vista College. He went on to receive his Master's from California State-Long Beach.

Kettering is the President of Farmer's State Bank.

Political experience

Kettering served in the Iowa State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002. He then won a special election for the Iowa State Senate in 2003. He has served in that position since, representing the 26th district. He is currently Senate Minority Whip.
