Roller ran in the 2012 election for Tennessee State Senate District 16. Roller, John Hargis, II, Kevin Lawrence, Jeff Bottoms, and Justin C. Walling were defeated by Jim Lewis in the August 2, 2012 Democratic primary. Janice Bowling defeated Eric Chance, Rod McClellan, and Ron Stoltzfus in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
