Steve Warnstadt (b. August 2, 1967) is a Democratic member of the Iowa Senate, representing District 1.

Education

Warnstadt earned his BA from Drake University in 1989. He went on to receive his MA from Temple University in 1994.

Professional experience

Warnstadt served in the United States Army in Germany/Persian Gulf from 1989 to 1992. He also served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1992 to 1993. He has been in the Iowa Army National Guard since 1993. He has also been an Adjunct Instructor for Western Iowa Technical Community College from 1998 to the present.

Political experience

Warnstadt was a Field Staffer for Harkin for Senate in 1984. In 1986 he was Volunteer Director for Zimmerman for Lieutenant Governor. He was President of Drake College Democrats from 1987 to 1988. He was also an Intern for the Iowa Senate in 1988. In 1996 he was Woodbury County Democratic Central Committee. He then served in the Iowa State House of Representatives from 1994 to 2002. He has served in the Iowa State Senate since 2002, representing the 1st district.
