A City of Stockton Utility User Tax Proposal, Measure U appeared on the November 4, 2008 ballot in San Joaquin County, California, for voters who live in the City of Stockton.
What the measure asked was:
- "Shall an ordinance be adopted to modernize the current ordinance to treat taxpayers equally regardless of technology used for telecommunication and video services; to maintain funding for general municipal services, such as police and fire protection, street maintenance, parks and libraries, subject to an annual independent audit?"
The tax will raise about $11.7 million each year for Stockton. It was supported by a group called "Friends of U."
Measure U was approved with 61.5% of the vote.
