Holmes is a retired real estate agent. She also taught school, served as a postmaster, a legal assistant and CFO of a family owned insurance company. She also served twelve years as mayor of Monticello, GA. Holmes also served on the board of directors of Griffin Technical College, Piedmont academy, and sat on the Jasper County Zoning, Jasper County Library and Jasper Memorial Hospital Boards.
She earned a B.S. in Business Education from the University of Georgia, where she also attended the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Holmes and her husband, Paul, have three children.
