Mustio earned his BA in Business Administration from Grove City College in 1979. He has worked as President of Hicks Heim Mustio Insurers since 1981.
Mustio served as Supervisor of the Moon Township from 2000 to 2003. He then joined the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2003. He has served in that position since, representing the 44th District.
PoliticsPA has named the District 37 Republican primary one of Pennsylvania's top ten most interesting legislative primaries in 2012.[1]

Mustio ran in the 2012 election for Pennsylvania House District 44. Mustio ran unchallenged in the Republican primary on April 24 and defeated Mark Scappe (D) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5]

Mustio won re-election to the 44th District Seat in 2010. He had no primary opposition and defeated Democrat Ray Uhric in the general election which took place on November 2, 2010.[6]
