Title of article

  • User:RepublicShallStand changed the title of this article on February 6 so that the title contained no brief descriptive words. User:RepublicShallStand changed the title of several other articles about Washington initiatives as well and in one instance included the words "Whoever is creating these articles with editorial statements in titles should stop" in an edit summary. I've probably done more work on Washington initiatives than any other volunteer and it is my practice to include brief descriptive words in the title of the article. These words are usually drawn from the initiative's official ballot title. (Initiatives in Washington are given both an official number and an official ballot title.) The purpose of including these brief descriptive words is to help readers quickly place which initiative an article is about. I believe that it a convenience to most readers to include words, as well as numbers, in the title. I believe that my practice is consistent with general practice across Ballotpedia. Placing words in the title of an article is not an editorial statement, contrary to User:RepublicShallStand's un-argued assertion to the effect. I grant that the specific words chosen can introduce bias, but that argument would have to be made on a case-by-case basis, and User:RepublicShallStand hasn't made that argument.
