Measure B renews the district's existing parcel tax of $238.78 and increases it to $245.94 starting in July 2012, with a 3% annual increase every year thereafter for 10 years.
The existing parcel tax was first approved in 1989. It was renewed in 1997 and 2004. The tax generates approximately $8.5 million a year for the school district, or about 16% of the district's annual school budget of $52 million.
A 2/3rds supermajority vote was required for passage.[2]

Support
TUHSD Board President Cindy McCauley said: "Our five high schools will look very different if it doesn’t pass. We know that times are tough right now for individual property owners, so we aren’t looking for a bunch of additional money. But we need it."[1]
Opposition
Measure B was opposed by the Marin United Taxpayers Association. Joe Salama, a board member, said, "But we think that given how the expenses are going, it doesn’t make sense to enable that any further. Everybody’s first priority is the students, including ours. But we don’t think that the best way is to keep enabling bad budget management."[1]
Schools in district
Five high schools are served by the district: Tam, Drake, Redwood, Tamiscal and San Andreas.

| MEASURE B: To maintain quality public high school education including small class sizes and exceptional instructional programs in Belvedere, Bolinas, Corte Madera, Fairfax, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Larkspur, Marin City, Mill Valley, Nicasio, Ross, San Anselmo, San Geronimo, Sausalito, Stinson Beach, and Tiburon, shall Tamalpais Union High School District be authorized to renew a parcel tax for ten years commencing July 1, 2012, at the current rate plus an annual 3% increase ($245.94 – tax year 2012-2013), with an exemption for parcels owned and occupied by persons 65 and older? |
