A Tavares City Amphitheater Bond Measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in the city of Tavares, which is in Lake County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 2,328 (46.14%)
  • NO 2,717 (53.86%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to create a bond in the amount of $8.8 million in order to fund the building of an outdoor amphitheater in the city. The length of the bond repayment had not been determined so the rate of increased property taxes for residents also was not known, but was estimated at around $82 a year in additional property taxes. Though city council members recognize the difficulty to add more taxes to residents, they are hopeful this would be approved.[2]

City officials printed out news flyers, posters and bookmarks to remind voters to go vote, though not implying which way to vote on the issue. City officials wanted to ensure that people remember to vote, though some residents saw no negative views posted on the printed reminders and saw it as their way of telling voters to vote yes.[3]
