In June 2013, more than two dozen House Democrats, including {{{Name}}}, took part in a SNAP challenge, feeding themselves for a week on the average benefit level of a SNAP recipient.[1]

The SNAP Challenge encouraged participants to get a sense of what life is like for millions of low-income Americans facing hunger. By accepting the SNAP Challenge, participants committed to eat all meals from a limited food budget comparable to that of a SNAP participant, approximately $1.50 per meal, or $4.50 a day.[2]
