NASHVILLE, Tennessee: On May 10, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam (R) signed a law easing ballot access requirements for new parties. Senate Bill 3700 moves the petition deadline for new party qualification from April to August and gives new parties the option to conduct a convention or primary. The changes were made in response to two rulings that overturned more restrictive statutes.[1]
