Term limit extension cut short in South Dakota

PIERRE, South Dakota: A constitutional amendment to extend the state's legislative term-limits has died in a South Dakota Senate committee. The proposed amendment had already been passed by the South Dakota House of Representatives. However, anticipating a defeat at the ballot box, sponsor James Bolin (R) asked the committee to kill the legislation, saying efforts would be better spent elsewhere. The amendment would have allow lawmakers to serve serve six, rather than four, consecutive terms.[1]
