Terry Bellamy is the current Democratic Mayor of Asheville, North Carolina. She had previously announced her candidacy for the U.S. House representing the 10th Congressional District of North Carolina but ultimately decided not to run.[1][2]

Bellamy previously ran for the 10th District seat, held by Republican Patrick T. McHenry, in the 2012 elections.[3] She was defeated by Patricia Keever in the Democratic primary on May 8, 2012.[4]

On February 28, 2013, Bellamy declared her second consecutive bid for North Carolina's 10th District seat in the 2014 U.S. House elections.[1] She later changed her mind and decided to take some time off, rather than seek election to Congress.[2]

Bellamy ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent North Carolina's 10th District. Bellamy sought the nomination on the Democratic ticket. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run was February 29, 2012. Bellamy was looking to unseat incumbent Rep. Patrick McHenry (R). Bellamy was defeated by Patricia Keever in the Democratic primary on May 8, 2012.[4]

The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in North Carolina in 2012 as one of the 10 states that could determine whether Democrats would retake the House or Republicans would hold their majority in 2013.[5] North Carolina was rated 8th on the list.[5]
