The Wayne Johnson Agency is a political and public affairs firm that specializes in "media production (television, radio, web), initiative management, crisis communications and issue advocacy. " It has two in-house subsidiary companies, Gateway Media and SmithJohnson Research, which specialize respectively in political media-buying and survey research.

For more than 29 years The Wayne Johnson Agency has had one focus – winning. Recently, in addition to our leadership roles in helping to defeat Proposition 93 and pass Proposition 11, our other 2008 statewide ballot victory was defeating George Soros’ Proposition 5, the drug offender and sentencing initiative. In that effort we assembled a broad coalition that included such diverse members as the California Republican Party, Martin Sheen, LULAC, the UFW’s Dolores Huerta, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Dianne Feinstein, and the state’s major law enforcement organizations. In the most recent election cycle, our most prominent victory was the defeat of Proposition 19, the marijuana legalization initiative.

Wayne C. Johnson is President of The Wayne Johnson Agency, headquartered in Sacramento, California. With more than 29 years experience in political and public affairs, Mr. Johnson has served in a senior consulting capacity on more than two hundred and fifty candidate campaigns, and more than a dozen statewide initiative campaigns. He is the immediate past Chairman of the 1,000-member American Association of Political Consultants, as well as an American representative on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Political Consultants.

Val R. Smith, Ph.D. (Purdue University, 1976, Organizational Communication) has worked with Wayne Johnson for over 18 years and heads up SmithJohnson Research.

Dr. Smith recently completed two terms as Chair of the Communications Department at Sacramento State University. Dr. Smith is a recognized expert in measuring public opinion. At CSUS, he teaches upper-division and graduate research and data analysis courses. Dr. Smith has conducted hundreds of qualitative and quantitative opinion research projects for clients ranging from issues to corporate surveys to political candidates.

For the past two decades, Dr. Smith’s research efforts have been directed toward applied research. While affiliated with SmithJohnson Research, CCG, and Meta Information Services, Dr. Smith has directed over 300 opinion research projects in the areas of public affairs, politics, and corporate market research. Other polling projects have included numerous statewide initiatives and a Presidential race in Argentina.

Tim Rosales is Vice President of the firm’s Public Affairs division working directly with our corporate, association, and initiative clientele. He more than 16 years of initiative, candidate and public affairs campaign and media experience, with expertise developing state and national campaign and press strategies, organizing and developing advocacy/outreach efforts on behalf of coalitions representing diverse demographic groups. He recently managed the successful No on Proposition 19 statewide campaign. Mr. Rosales has appeared on and in CNN, Fox News, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.

Previous to joining the Wayne Johnson Agency Mr. Rosales served as Chief of Staff for two California Legislators and senior staff to a Member of Congress.

Kurt Snow is the Vice-President of Gateway Media. With more than twenty years of political media buying experience including television, radio, outdoor and print, Mr. Snow oversees electronic media placement through Gateway Media. During the 2010 election cycle, Mr. Snow directed statewide and regional strategic media placement efforts in California, Oregon, Michigan, Florida, Connecticut and New York.
