Colapietro attended Bristol Technical High School.
Professional experience
Colapietro has worked as a Union Official. He also served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. He is a retired Set-Up Operator for Delco Chassis, General Motors Corporation.

Colapietro joined the Connecticut State Senate in 1993 and has served in that position since. He served as Assistant Minority Leader in 1995. He is currently Senate Deputy Majority Leader, representing the 31st district.
