Biography
McTavish is a retired Navy Captain. He served as an associate lecturer for 16 years at Pennsylvania State University and local commmunity colleges teaching business courses. He worked as an audit manager at a CPA firm in Philadelpia, Pennsylvania prior to his entrance into politics. He is a member of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers and Treasurers (NASACT) and National State Auditors Association (NSAA).[1]

Michigan Auditor General (1989 - present)
McTavish has served as Michigan Auditor General since 1989 when he was first appointed by the Michigan State Legislature.[1] Since 1989, McTavish has worked with the legislature to increase the efficacy of the auditor position in Michigan. For his work, McTavish was awarded the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) "Outstanding CPA in Government" award in 2009.[2]
