Tim Carpenter has been a Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Senate since 2002, representing the 3rd district. He is currently the President Pro Tempore.

Early life and career

Tim Carpenter was born in Milwaukee, WI, the same city he lives in currently. A graduate from Pulaski H.S., Carpenter received a bachelor's degree from U.W. Milwaukee and a master's degree from the LaFollette Institute of U.W. Madison. Before becoming a legislator, he held jobs at both Rustlers Steak House and Federal Express[1]. He is one of the two openly gay Wisconsin Senators[2].

Political career

Sen. Carpenter's political career began in 1984. He was 24 years old when he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly. He served as the Assembly Speaker Pro Tempore in 1993. In 2002, he became a State Senator. He currently holds this position, serving as the President Pro Tempore, chair of the Committee on Public Health, Senior Issues, Long-Term Care, and Job Creation, vice-chair of the Committee on Health, Health Insurance, Privacy, Property Tax Relief, and Revenue, and a member of the Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs, Biotechnology, and Financial Institutions and the Joint Survey Committee on Retirement Systems.[1][3][4].
