Tim Owens is a former Republican member of the Kansas State Senate, representing District 8 from 2009 to 2013. He was a Representative for the 19th District in the Kansas House of Representatives from 2002 until his election as senator. From 1981 to 2005, he served as a council member for the Overland Park City Council, 3rd District.

  • A new approach to education. Education funding is important.
  • Opposed to a TABOR amendment until it is "clear and well understood."
  • Laws to regulate eminent domain are needed.

  • Not opposed to gun possession but has voted against concealed weapons carrying

Owens ran for re-election in 2012. He lost to Jim Denning in the Republican primary on August 7. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[3]

Targeted

Owens is one of eight Republican incumbents that the Kansas Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee has targeted for defeat in 2012. It sees the eight incumbents as being impediments to private sector job creation and has made $1,000 donations and in-kind contributions to the Republican challengers.[4]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Owens was elected to the 8th District Seat in the Kansas State Senate, defeating Judy Macy (D).[5] Owens raised $81,979 for his campaign, while Macy raised $23,746.[6]
